BLUE WATER TASK FORCE (BWTF)

The BWTF consists of three "signature" programs:

Our weekly water tests and lab
Beach clean-ups
Storm drain stenciling

Yes, all labor to conduct these activities is by volunteers, but this work does have rising material and power costs, for example, since the chapter's founding in 1991, costs are up. In fact, we see that the basic cost to process a single water sample has doubled over the years.

We think these programs act on common goals throughout the coastal community. Who among all us surfers, swimmers, divers, sailors, fishermen, or beach-goers prefers recreating or working in polluted water or on trashed beaches? Not us!

Therefore, we've established a process to directly support the Blue Water Task Force. Current cost of processing a single water quality sample in our test lab is $15. A year's worth of samples at a single collection site is $630 (42X15). A six-month cost is $315.

We're asking for your help in supporting this very important project. Any business, service club, school, team or concerned individual may contribute to the BWTF, so long as no conflict of values is perceived in the relationship. Any amount of assistance will be of direct help to our weekly water tests. We will try to target your contribution to a specific beach or sample-site should you wish, subject to availability of sampling volunteers.

To try to clarify expectations, we have established several general levels of contributing.

CHAMPION
Any contribution to BWTF from $400 up to $630 will be a Blue Water Champion! Your participation will support water quality tests at a single collection point for an entire year. Surfrider will publish your name and link to your website, should you desire, on this website for one year, and will also list your participation in our quarterly newspaper, Ocean's Roar, which commonly reaches about 1200 members and other readers. Also, in Ocean's Roar, we will publish a business-card size advertisement for your business or other organization. We will announce your support of the BWTF at all chapter meetings, of course, and will also supply a certificate of thanks documenting your concern about ocean pollution and your decision to join the clean water movement. Help us raise public awareness of ocean pollution and warn people of potential health dangers from water contact.

DEFENDER
Any contribution to BWTF from $180 up to $400 will be a Blue Water Defender! Your help will help fund water quality tests at a single collection point for many months. Surfrider will acknowledge your contribution by publishing your name and linking to your website, should you desire, on this website and in our quarterly newspaper, Ocean's Roar. We will announce your participation at all chapter meetings, and will supply a certificate of thanks documenting your positive action to help fight ocean pollution.

FRIEND
Any contribution from $30 up to $180 will be a Blue Water Friend! Your support will help fund water quality tests at a single collection point for two weeks up to three months. Surfrider will publish your name on this website and link to your site, should you desire. We will also supply a certificate of thanks documenting your contribution to the BWTF.

Please, help support our ongoing fight for clean ocean water for everyone who loves the oceans, waves and beaches.
